Job Description
Job Title: Head Chef
Responsible to: Director and Area Manager

Work hours: 6:30 am – 5.30 pm (5 days per week)
Uniform: Chef uniform
Probation Period: 3 months
Salary: 20,000-30,000

Main role: To effectively run the kitchen, maintain quality and standard of Steps menu, work closely with the management team to come up with new products, and implement marketing and promotion plans from the management team to create more income for the coffee shop. The Head Chef should effectively manage the kitchen team, be a role model, and train new staff to be able to work efficiently in their roles. The Head Chef is also responsible to make sure all the training happening in the kitchen runs effectively and is beneficial for the trainees.

Head Chef responsibilities:

- Effectively manage kitchen production in making food and bakery for Steps coffee shop, Steps branches, and all outsourcing places.
- Following the systems set up by the management, the head chef will effectively manage the kitchen systems including ingredient and stock keeping, kitchen hygiene, workflow, and equipment maintenance
- Quality control for food and bakery
- Deal with suppliers and work with senior management team to control all costs (ingredients, packaging, labor) to be at minimum and most effective
- Manage kitchen team, be a role model, and train new staff
- Work with the senior management team to create new menu for special or seasonal occasions as well as to improve the coffee shops food service and attract new customers
- Work with training centre team and kitchen team to create the most conducive learning environment for Steps trainees and outside students who attend classes in Steps kitchen
- Prepare lunches for the trainees and make sure that the lunches provided are healthy (less sugar, less salt, less fat, no MSG) and everyone can eat (check allergies)
- Work with branch manager to oversee coffee shop in general
Qualifications :
- Age 30 - 45 years old
- Minimum 2 years experience in Bakery and Western food kitchen and 1 year in kitchen management.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Good computer skills
- Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing in English
- Have strong leadership and believe in inclusive workplace
- Can be flexible with working hours
