JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title and Summary: The Social Change Officer works to implement activities related to community engagement to improve human attitudes and behaviour towards animals in Phuket and across Thailand. The Social Change Officer will work under the guidance of the Social Change Manager, Animal Welfare Community Engagement Department.
Social Change Programme:
The Social Change Programme advocates for animal welfare through collaborating with diverse stakeholders to contribute to a more just and equitable environment for animals. Through thorough investigation of cases and collaborative measures, Soi Dog Foundation’s Social Change Programme engages the public in animal welfare issues. The programme also raises awareness, builds empathy and encourages responsible animal treatment and ownership by organizing events, workshops and seminars.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintains a dog and cat feeder list and oversees distribution of resources accordingly as per annual MoUs with animal feeders.
• Works in close proximity with the Community Outreach Programme (COP), the Dog & Cat Hospitals and the Behaviour team to inspect areas before and after animal sterilisation and treatment and provide necessary education where required.
• Advises general public on animal welfare issues and promotes CNVR (Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) as the solution to stray dog and cat overpopulation.
• Sets up locations to hold educational workshops for animal feeders and community members around Phuket and across Thailand.
• Nominates and trains “animal advocates” (community volunteers) to create a strong network of responsible and caring members of the society.
• Seeks out and maintains valuable partnerships with local stakeholders to help support SDF’s mission through collaboration and partnerships (local government authorities, law enforcement, development and tourism agencies, community leaders, religious leaders, etc).
• Provides input on the development of workshops and educational materials.
• Investigates and resolves human-animal conflicts in the community.
• Investigates and takes appropriate actions on all types of animal cruelty cases reported, including animal abandonment cases and cases of severe neglect.
• Conducts dog and cat population and human attitude surveys to monitor and evaluate the progress of the programme.
• Contributes to drafting and curating ‘success’ stories from completed investigations.
• Prepares and submits accurate daily, monthly and annual reports to immediate supervisor.
• As part of the Soi Dog team, is available to help as needed, even with tasks that are outside of the job description.
Department and Supervisor: Department of Animal Welfare – Community Engagement; reports to the Social Change Manager.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Thai nationality
• Fluent and eloquent in Thai and English (speaking and writing)
• Clean driving license
• Own mode of transport, preferably a car
• Experience in customer service or/ and working with the government sector
• Enjoys working outdoors/ in the field
• Very well organised, self-motivated, confident and charismatic
• Excellent communicator and passionate about animal welfare
Location: Mai Khao, Phuket
Type of Employment: Full-time
Benefits:
• Five-day work a week, 40 hours per week with two days off. Employee may start and finish work at different times depending on their duties as directed by their manager.
